Refractory-Lined Hot Blast Air Delivery Equipment for Blast Furnace Tuyere with Dual Injection Ports
The Blow Pipe Arrangement is a critical hot blast system component connecting the bustle pipe to the tuyere, delivering high-temperature, high-pressure air into the blast furnace hearth. Fabricated from AISI 316L stainless steel with a rolled and formed nose section, refractory brick lining, and a bolted flange with 20 holes on a 635 PCD, it incorporates two injection lance mounting positions for auxiliary fuel or coal dust injection alongside the primary hot blast stream.
Hot blast air at elevated temperature and 6 bar pressure must be conveyed reliably from the bustle main to the tuyere without leakage, thermal distortion, or structural failure. The assembly also needs to accommodate injection lances for pulverized coal or auxiliary reductant without disturbing the primary blast flow. Thermal cycling, refractory wear, and access constraints on the tuyere platform further complicate design, fabrication, and long-term maintainability.
The design uses a rolled and welded 316L stainless shell with a machined nose and flanged connections at both ends for bolted assembly to the bustle pipe and tuyere stock. Refractory bricks line the internal bore to manage thermal loading, while two injection lance bosses at defined angles allow coal dust introduction. Ultrasonic testing of thick plates, controlled heat input, and stress relieving ensure weld integrity and dimensional stability.
The completed arrangement provides a reliable, leak-tight path for hot blast delivery to the tuyere while supporting dual lance injection for process flexibility. Ultrasonic testing, pressure testing at 6 bar, and controlled fabrication sequencing confirm structural soundness before refractory pouring. The bolted flange interfaces simplify installation and future maintenance on the tuyere platform, reducing downtime during furnace campaigns.
