PLC-Operated Strip Switching Device
A reverse engineering project focused on recreating the Strip Switch for Down Coilers, a 1.2-ton heavy steel casting manufactured from IS 1030 Grade 280-520W. The project involved accurate dimensional measurement, 3D CAD modeling, material assignment, and preparation of detailed manufacturing drawings to establish a complete digital engineering package for machining and production.
The existing Strip Switch required a comprehensive digital engineering package to support manufacturing, machining, inspection, and future replacement requirements. Due to its complex casting geometry, precision-machined interfaces, and large overall size, accurately documenting the component while preserving its manufacturing intent was essential for reliable production and engineering reference.
The component was systematically reverse engineered through manual dimensional measurement and recreated as an accurate 3D CAD model while preserving all critical casting and machining features. Material properties were assigned using IS 1030 Grade 280-520W, and detailed manufacturing drawings with sectional views, machining details, technical notes, and tolerances were prepared to support production and quality inspection.
Successfully established a complete digital engineering package for the 1.2-ton Strip Switch, including an accurate 3D CAD model, manufacturing drawings, material specifications, and technical documentation. The resulting engineering data provides a reliable reference for machining, inspection, maintenance, and future manufacturing while preserving the design intent of the original component.
